Job Summary

Our client is an established energy consultancy company providing services in a number of areas including planning, design, construction, metering, management, operation, and regulation of electricity systems.

Geotechnical Project Manager – Offshore Survey Sector

Our client is a UK based worldwide offshore site investigation and foundation engineering Company; they are currently seeking a Geotechnical Project Manager due to increased workload in their Avon office.

The role will be predominantly office based with site management postings to field operations as necessary.

As a project manager you will be responsible for all aspects of a geotechnical contract including client liaison, planning and scheduling, commercial control, staffing, supervision of execution, approval of engineering and reporting including bearing capacity calculations, piled foundation design, liquefaction assessment and pile driving analyses. Projects are conducted worldwide including Europe, Middle East, West Africa and South America. So short term deployments overseas and to vessels during site investigation work is to be expected.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years experience in supervising geotechnical investigations including marine based investigations. They will possess a degree relevant to Geotechnics or Engineering Geology.

Knowledge of BS5930 “Code of practice for site investigation” and BS1377 “Methods of test for soils for civil engineering purposes” would be expected. Experience of foundation design and engineering reporting will be required.

Objectives

You will lead Project Delivery team (4/5 project managers) within the overall Geotechnical Division tasked with maximising revenue and margin on Geotechnical offshore projects for a range of blue chip offshore sector clients in the O&G, renewable sectors. You and your team will need to deliver within agreed project management procedures to ensure that contracted work is completed on time, within budget and within quality requirements.

You will be responsible for ensuring your lead your team in their execution of projects from commercial handover throughout the planning, execution / controlling and closing stages. You will be instrumental in commercial, technical and budget management in all stages of the execution of the Project, in addition you will contribute to the Lessons Learnt Database and continuous improvement.

You will lead the PD team in all aspects of quality based project execution in its many facets including a strong and robust approach to client management and all aspects of contractual management in order to maximise client satisfaction whilst maximising project margin deliverables.

The role will also encompass a responsibility for on-going competency and training and development of the reporting project managers.

Responsibilities

· Work closely with the UK Commercial team on submissions prior to formal Contract Signature identifying and managing any significant risks alongside the Bid team.

· Carry out detailed Project Risk Assessments; prepare Risk Response Planning in liaison with other stakeholders.

· Report on overall UK Project portfolio performance on a weekly basis in cooperation with the Project Management team to ensure that all times the risk profile across the portfolio is being managed.

· Identify in advance any potential overruns in terms of cost or schedule, and take action to mitigate if required and escalate appropriately.

· Work with the Group Projects Director in rolling out internal Project Delivery Quality Improvements.

· Feed-back internally (i.e. Lessons Learnt).

· Measure and maintain KPIs and ensure all stakeholders are fully aware and operate within these constraints.

· Work with our client’s Marine division in the management of key project stakeholders.

Requirements

· Thorough experience and knowledge of an appropriate Project Management methodology e.g. PMBOK (PMP)

· Minimum of 10 years project management experience ideally in the offshore sector.

· Proven experience working within a cross-functional environment.

· Solid knowledge of the marine engineering industry, encompassing Telecoms, Power, Oil and Gas and other core and non-core marine sectors.

· Strong and demonstrable Project Management skills.

· Relevant degree or education consistent with good analytical capability.

Our client is seeking a Field Engineer to work on Electricity Substations, the successful candidate will be an integral member of a mobile workforce and will work on all aspects of substation equipment as required, demonstrating a flexible approach to work and its completion so as to minimise cost. You'll help ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the electricity transmission network through the efficient maintenance of substation assets and you'll provide support and assistance to a Delivery Engineer, ensuring the effective day-day utilisation of resources and prioritisation of work within the tasks and projects allocated.

The Field Engineer is responsible for leading a team within a field environment to deliver work as directed by the Delivery Engineer / Manager. Typically you will manage multiple tasks concurrently at various locations, with large numbers of staff of mixed ability, including contractors.

You will be undertaking a range of duties on plant and equipment which may include maintenance, site delivery of projects, commissioning, complex fault investigation and repair. You will manage safety implementation and monitoring, supervising internal and monitoring external staff to ensure optimum efficiency, cost effectiveness and safety.

Experience in Substations work and/or on HV cable systems is required. You will have an in depth technical knowledge relating to the electrical and safety aspects of Substation main plant and / or protection equipment, together with fault-finding expertise and Plant analysis. Environmental knowledge and experience is also required in respect of day-to-day duties, together with proven ability to respond to emergency situations.

Due to the nature of the role you will need to be competent in planning, people-management, communicating and supervising, in order to lead large groups of staff and to achieve efficient completion of tasks. You will also have demonstrable skills in expenditure management and control of budgets.

It is an advantage to hold Senior Authorised Person status and a NEBOSH Certificate, with the ability to co-ordinate routine or emergency response work within this safety critical environment across a large range of equipment. The ability to commission equipment to recognised standards and procedures is also preferable with demonstrable experience in project delivery.

You will have a minimum of HNC or equivalent in an electrical or mechanical discipline, with qualifications leading to membership of IET or similar professional body. A full UK driving license is also required.

This person is responsible for ensuring the consistent, efficient and safe execution of all engineering activities on an offshore wind farm project and has 2 main functions:

Solar PV Engineer (UK Vacancy)

Hydropower Mechanical Design Engineer (UK Vacancy)

The success candidate would be a mechanical engineer with an interest in the design and development of hydroelectric projects. The candidate would be required to have skills in most of the following areas: pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, design and specification, implementation and commissioning.

In addition to design and development of new and existing hydro schemes the hydro team also provides due diligence services and advice to developers and scheme purchasers.

It is expected that the engineer would work as part of the multi-disciplinary hydro team alongside other engineers of various disciplines. An interest in related technical disciplines is considered very beneficial as it is often necessary to provide small project teams. When appropriate, the candidate would be expected to manage their own projects and to be aware of the company’s project management systems. Training is available as required.

Overseas travel would be expected. Visits would normally be of one to two weeks duration but longer visits might be required. There is also a potential by mutual agreement for longer term overseas postings.

The hydropower subdivision operates with a fairly flat structure and individuals can be expected to report to both senior and junior staff as required by the individual projects.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:
- First degree in an appropriate discipline.
- Some experience in the development of mechanical engineering plant.
- Previous experience with a consultancy.

Desirable:
- A second degree and experience in hydraulic equipment (gates and valves) would be advantageous.
- A flexible mind with good team skills.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
